So, I'm the kind of
person that believes that one mans trash is anothers treasure. Most of
the things, especially furniture in my house, came from dumpsters.
People throw stuff away all the time that is still good or relatively
new. It's crazy what people throw away. You'd think they'd give stuff to
goodwill or free stores at least. Right now as I write this, there are
new looking clothes in the dumpster which I'm about to retrieve and
clean up (hooray for vinegar!) Just to make a point, here's a list of
things in my home that I've gotten from dumpster diving. Enjoy!
2 computer desks, a tv, a bookshelf, a mattress for my son's toddler bed, our couch, an ottoman, the chair i'm sitting in writing this, clothes, an end table, my son's dresser, a tie dye chair, and various other small finds.
Remember, people throw things away because they bought something newer, or they don't want to clean something up that can be cleaned. Throwing things away is necessary or else your home would be very cluttered, but we should help each other out by reusing other people's garbage. Just because a thing isn't useful for one doesn't mean it's not for someone else. I've lived by this my whole life. Remember to be safe while diving according to the law in your state. It also helps to know when trash pick up is if you actually get into the dumpster. You don't want to be killed or seriously hurt. If you want to be extra careful, make sure you have up to date tetanus shot and hepatitis shots. Remember, to wear gloves, wear jeans and long sleeves, boots, and wash your hands when you're done. Haha you said it yourself, this blog is all over the place, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely read more articles like this. You sound like you have a wide range of skills, and maybe more informative pieces could show them off a little more. Either way, your posts are very enjoyable to read, and I can't wait to see what else you come up with.
